The young couple who bought this home wanted to create their dream home for their growing family in this well-established and beautifully landscaped estate in west Dublin. The design required a complete re-think of the existing dwelling, which was untouched since it was built. The entire house was gutted, and the layout reconsidered from the top down. The stairs were relocated, four bedrooms provided upstairs, and a large open-plan living space created downstairs in the rear extension, along with ancillary spaces and a separate sitting and play room. The challenge of the north-facing rear garden was overcome with the use of a light-well to the side of the open-plan space, providing glass on three sides and bring daylight in through the day, with direct sunlight reaching in to the space in the evenings.
